Serving Others
OUR COMMITTMENT
Canticle Ministries is committed to Human and Community Development in ourselves and our services. This mission stems from the mission of our sponsors, The Wheaton Franciscans, a community of vowed women and covenant members. Through the work of Canticle Ministries and our sponsors, we are called to foster the DEVELOPMENT of individuals (HUMAN) and the relationships between them (COMMUNITY). While this is a simple message, it comes with complex challenges. It provides the context for defining the individual’s contribution and responsibility, and guides our principles for action. The needs of our times with regard to HIV, and holding true to our mission, lead us to hold the following values and principles as we do our work;
- All individuals are worthy of dignity, respect and attention and their lives are sacred;
- They are not alone, that they belong and are related to others;
- People and relationships need to grow and develop.
While our mission and philosophy are embedded in the teachings of the Catholic Church, our ministry serves and honors all people without regard to race, color, ethnicity, sex, or sexual orientation. There is a clear separation between the beliefs of our sponsors and respecting the unique values and beliefs of each individual.
The goal of Canticle Ministries is to always meet the client where he or she is at. We then work to help them identify both their goals and barriers, and to proactively and holistically support them in any way that we can to help remove the barriers. It is then up to the individual to make the rest happen – and do they ever!
Some of the areas that clients choose to focus on are career, physical health, emotional and psychological healing, and spiritual development. We also provide opportunities for people to come together and socialize. The core elements of our program include our Transitional Housing Program, The Canticle Ministries Scholarship, Centro de Esperanza in Aurora and Community Activities.
